I found an interesting article yesterday in which a new study currently being performed on mice gives hope to those who are suffering from degenerative memory loss diseases, such as Alzheimer’s.

In the study, researchers mimic the effects of Alzheimer’s and other similar diseases on mice and found a distinctive protein that is produced as brain cells deteriorate. The loss of these cells is what leads to memory loss.

Understanding what causes the brain cell degeneration allows researchers to test new drugs in the hopes of preventing the deterioration, or assist in the restoration of these cells, with the ultimate goal of reproducing the brain’s lost cells and restoring a patient’s memory and brain functions.
