Over the past several weeks, I have been noticed a considerable uptick in the amount of news stories surrounding concussions and have been astounded by the number of daily reports of athletes having sustained concussions. The athletes referenced span the entire spectrum of professional sports from baseball to football to soccer and even South African rugby.
On Wednesday morning, the news referenced a concussion suffered by former Atlanta Falcon’s wide-receiver Peerless Price, a recent concussion suffered by Eric Duncan, a 20-year old Yankee prospect with the Trenton Thunder and a concussion suffered by Antonio Chapman of the Green Bay Packers. The alert also included a story about Frisco quarterback Kel Presley, a 5’10” 160 pound senior who has had five concussions.
Clearly this is a health epidemic that requires not only publicity but action.
