Stark & Stark would like to congratulate Accident and Personal Injury Shareholder Bruce Stern. Mr. Stern has been elected Parliamentarian of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) at the organization’s annual convention in Baltimore, Md. AAJ is the world’s largest trial bar, working to make sure people have a fair chance to receive justice through the legal system when they are injured by the negligence or misconduct of others. Mr. Stern concentrates his practice in the area of traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries and wrongful death.

Last week I had the pleasure of attending and speaking at the American Conference Institute’s 2nd Annual Summit on Brain Injury Claims and Litigation.  On Friday, March 15, 2013, I had the pleasure of participating in a panel presentation on the topic of “Using Neurologists, Neuropsychologist, Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist, and Lay-witnesses to  Persuade the Jury and Maximize the Strength of Your Case.”  At the conclusion of the program, I participated in a panel workshop on identifying and handling the traumatic brain injury case.

The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey is scheduled to hold two free educational sessions intended for parents, school professionals, and other health and disability professionals. The session will include an overview of brain injuries, brain injuries in the school system, the effects of brain injuries on students, accommodations and strategies used to assist students, and programs and services of the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey.

The session will be offered on two Thursday September 16, 2010 and Thursday October 7, 2010 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The Brain Injury Association of America will host a webinar in conjunction with their Caregiver’s Education Series entitled, Aphasia and Brain Injury. The webinar will be held Tuesday  May 11, 2010 from 3:00-4:00 PM.

The presentation will cover topics such as: what is aphasia, what causes aphasia, the different types of aphasias and other important facts. The presentation will also offer programs and identify resources available for people with aphasia and their families through the National Aphasia Association. The presenters will also list strategies for effective communication and advocacy for people with aphasia.

Just a reminder that The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey will host its 2010 Annual Gala on Tuesday March 9, 2010 at the Hanover Marriott in Whippany, New Jersey. The Gala will celebrate the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey’s 25 years of service and dedication to the brain injury community and will honor individuals who have made significant contributions to advancing the quality of life in New Jersey throughout the past 25 years.

The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey will hold its Annual Brain Injury Awareness Day Monday, March 8, 2010 at the State House in Trenton, New Jersey. A tentative schedule of events for the day is listed below:

  • Visit the display at the elevator lobby on the 3rd floor (near Café NJ) between 10:00 – 12:00 and learn about our programs and services.
  • At 1:00 visit the Welcome Center Multi-Purpose Room as the BIANJ recognizes Assemblywoman Mila Jasey for being prime sponsor of law creating the New Jersey Special Education and Traumatic Brain Injury Task Force. 
  • At 2:00 the Assembly Education Committee is expected to hold a hearing on sports concussion.
