Outside medical experts to join NFL summit on concussions
Due to recent increased criticism in the wake of Andre Waters' suicide and the onset of Alzheimer's disease-like symptoms in 34-year-old Ted Johnson, the National Football League has agreed to let outside researchers assist in the concussion commission summit to be held June 19, 2007 in Chicago.
An article today on the Baltimore Sun's website reports that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has been feeling outside pressure related to the league's care and concern of it's players. Outside researchers include concussion experts, who for the most part have criticized the league’s negligent attitude and initiative to prevent and treat their players suffering from concussions and related traumatic brain injuries.
This is a huge step by the NFL, in addition to the recent increased penalties to players for harsher personal conduct on the field, towards setting the right example and educating people on the severity of traumatic brain injuries in this country.
