Official Statistics Underestimate Brain Injury
A recent population-based study published on November 22 in The Lancet Neurology suggests that "the true incidence of traumatic brain injury (TBI) is about sixfold higher than official figures state." Mild cases of TBI are usually not treated in hospitals and therefore are not included in official estimates. It is reported that 95% of the 1369 traumatic brain injury cases were mild, and only 64% were detected in the hospital.
