Number of Serious Head Injuries on the Rise
The US government recently reported that more Americans are suffering from type 1 traumatic brain injuries, the most serious of brain injuries. A 38% hospitalization increase from 2001-2004 of type 1 brain injuries has given significant attention to why the rate of injuries is on the rise.
I found an interesting article on Reuters.com which addresses this issue and speaks with Dr. Claudia Steiner of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. While the statistics are staggering to those who are unaware of how serious traumatic brain injuries have become, educating the public on how prevalent this problem has become is the first step in finding a solution.
