New Helmet Reduces Concussion Rate
Football is still a potentially dangerous sport, but a study shows it is now somewhat safer, thanks to new helmet technology that offers more protection to the temple area and jaw. The Kansas City Star recently reported that a study administered by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center showed that players who wore the new Revolution helmet were 31 percent less likely to sustain a concussion. The study was funded by Riddell, the helmet's manufacturer. The findings also showed that though the helmet reduced the concussion rate, it did not reduce the severity of injury when a player does sustain a concussion.
