Helmets and seat belts lower risk of damage to the brain
The Think First National Injury Prevention Foundation has a goal this summer, to increase the number of people who protect themselves from sever injuries due to care and bicycle accidents, and decrease the number of traumatic brain injuries as a result of those accidents. The Think First National Injury Prevention Foundation is urging everyone to buckle their seatbelts when in cars, and to wear helmets when riding bikes.
According to the Think First National Injury Prevention Foundation, traumatic brain injury causes 20 times more disabilities than AIDS, breast cancer, spinal cord injuries and multiple sclerosis combined. An estimated 1,165,000 children will require hospitalization following a traumatic brain injury, while one in 10 will live with moderate to severe impairments.
