DTI Demonstrates Brain Injury Still Evident Even after Symptoms Subside
Last week’s online issue of Forbes carried an interesting story, again demonstrating that brain injury is still evident after concussions even when symptoms have subsided.
A new study published online in the Journal of Neurology (November 20, 2013) and funded by the National Institutes of Health, found that even after most symptoms had significantly subsided, there was evidence of ongoing brain abnormalities. The author, Andrew R. Mayer, Ph.D. of the Mind Research Network and University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, NM, utilized diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in the research.
