Clinical Trial of Stem Cell Treatment for Children with Brain Injury

Researchers at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital plan to launch a clinical trial to test the safety and potential effectiveness of treating children suffering with traumatic brain injury with stem cells from their own bone marrow.

The trial is being spearheaded by Dr. Charles Cox and Dr. James Baumgartner. They say that although there is no reparative treatment for traumatic brain injury, their hope is to try to prevent secondary damage caused by pressure from the initial injury.

This is the first treatment of it's kind, and the potential is very exciting. Even a small improvement for someone suffering a brain injury could mean a lot.
