Care for Brain Injured Soldiers

As I have written in past posts, there is a disproportionate number of soldiers serving in Iraq that are sustaining traumatic brain injuries from the use of improvised explosive devices, the weapon of choice in this war.

A recent editoral piece appearing in the Washington Times reports on the need for "polytrauma" and "Level II" centers to treat severely wounded veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. The story highlights a young solider who suffered severe brain damage, as well as lost an arm, as a result of an explosive device. His roommates were elderly vets from World War II and Korea, whose needs were dramatically different from his own.
