American Neuropsychiatric Association Meeting
On Friday, February 20, 2009, I had the honor of speaking at the American Neuropsychiatric Association’s 20th Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. On the program were noted criminal defense trial attorney, F. Lee Bailey, as well as Dr. Judith G. Edersheim of Harvard Medical School and Dr. Christopher Filley of the University of Colorado, Denver School of Medicine. The program was chaired by Bruce Price, M.D. of the McLean Center for Law Brain and Behavior, Harvard Medical School.
The program was entitled “Neurology, Psychiatry and Causation in the Courtroom: Lost in Translation.” The session explored the use of neuropsychological and neuropsychiatric concepts in the legal setting and evaluated successful and unsuccessful attempts to use diagnostic findings to explain human behaviors.
Earlier, F. Lee Bailey was the guest speaker who spoke on “The Measure of Truth in the Courtroom: Personal Reflections.” Mr. Bailey’s presentation centered around the use of polygraphs to detect deception.
The American Neuropsychiatric Association (ANPA) was established in 1988 as an organization of professionals in neuropsychiatry, behavioral neurology and the clinical sciences in order to improve the lives of people with disorders at the interface of psychiatry and neurology through clinical care, education, advocacy and research.
