Alcohol May Help in Some Head Injury Cases
Before I even start this post, I want to say we do not endorse drinking and driving. In fact, I think we'd all agree that you're much less likely to have an accident if you haven't been drinking at all. That being said, a recent story in the New York Times reported on a study done in Toronto that showed patients with head injury who had moderate amounts of alcohol in their blood upon arrival at the hospital had a lower mortality rate than those with no alcohol or large amounts of alcohol. The researchers were quick to point out that the study only included patient who had arrived at the hospital alive. Many killed by trauma never make it to the hospital, and a large number of those people have been drinking.
